I have a network
3 computers connected together through a hub. I can share files and printers and stuff. One of the computers is connected to the internet using ISDN.
Earlier today I bought half-life source, yep, it's the disco remix and I want it. I'm installing on one of the computers not connected to the internet, yet -the installation requires access to internet. So I must connect this computer to the internet. Easy, no?
No.
I use the network setup wizard, I click the appropriate buttons. Nothing happens, well, it's a microsoft program so I run through the drill three more times, nothing happens. I try a different configuration. Nothing happens. I try the floppy disk windows suggest I create. Nothing happens. I try all the other options even though I know they do not apply to my situation. Nothing happens.
Fascinating isn't it. For all the wiz-bang of microsoft they're unable to connect two computers together and let them share an internet connection using 30 year old LAN technology, should have gotten the bugs out in that time you'd think.
And what's this floppy disk thing? My computers are already connected with a a fully functioning 100 mbps network, why does microsoft want me to carry a floppy disk from one computer to the other. I don't even have a floppy in all my computers, can't remember last time I used a floppy, must have been years ago.
So in conclusion, I give up. I am now going to carry the computer to the internet connection and plug it in directly. This will deprive me of my firewall and virus-killer, and leave me exposed to the hound dawgs of the internet.
Then I will carry it back, and I can never enjoy a game of counter-strike beacuse of this.
Unless ofcourse, somebody out there knows how to connect the most banal network in the world to the internet, microsoft sure as heck don't. Please, any hint would be *so* useful.
Fuck microsoft, fuck king Gates, fuck capitalism,
Long live Life Substitute.
