d-tox
My sleeping is erratic, I´m tired but can´t sleep.
I´ve only slept 2-3 hours every day for the past week. Must be d-toxing.
I´m attempting a return to normalcy, and this is not easy, my dreams have reaffirmed themselves with a vengeance. I wake up like from a jacobs ladder.
I guess they have been suppressed for so long that now, when they´re not, they just take over, or -that I haven´t dreamt for so long that I just get stressed out from doing it.
Ultimately I´m hoping to benefit from this cleansing of my body, but we´ll see, another 6 weeks in paradise. If I can´t regain control in that time the effort will have been futile.
I sit dozing off in front of star trek episodes on divx, I fade out and immediatly enter a dream-world, I wake up in 5 minutes, disoriented and confused.
No wonder they have clinics for this.
Btw, TV, haven´t watched any TV since I came. But the previous proprietors of the apartment were german and they left behind a digital receiver. It receives mostly german channels but one of them is Viva(like their version of MTV) which is cool, and CNN and NBC in english. Also, I can understand german well enough(ahem) to watch a movie if they send one, speaking of language my spanish is improving. Not bad.
However, I haven´t used it because I haven´t had a cable for the sound, only picture(I interface it to a TV-in card in my computer and watch the picture on the computer screen). But today I bought a cable for the sound as well so now I can both watch and listen to TV simultanously. Yeah. Cool.
I hate TV.
Anyway, in other entertainment news I got myself a membership at the local videostore yesterday. I opened the show with I, robot which I´ve wanted to see since I saw the trailer for its compelling visuals. Only when the credits come on after the movie(there were no titles) do I realize it is made by Alex Proyas. I´m a big fan of his and can not explain how I didn´t know it was his, but anyway, like his other films it is beautiful to watch. While watching it I more once caught myself starting to analyze peculiarities in the cinematography and dialogue. His rendition of humor in future, like how Will Smiths character behaves post the suicide of dr. Tanning, is actually remarkable direction. Me like. I think this is what I like best in mr. Proyas work(apart from the stunning visuals(the image of a broken robot saying "run" is one of emotional high-points(!) of I, robot)), there is always a sense of dislocation, of off. Alternate reality. Fantasy.
I, robot is his brightest film(literally) to date, and the massive amount of Hollywood money required to make it has toned down the darker aspects it might have had. It is still great though.
I just read the trivia for dark city and the crow on imdb, interesting.
I figure I´ll see the Aviator -about John Hughes of Hughes aerospace, tonight. I saw half of it on divx and it was interesting, gotta see the end.
I also saw Big trouble in little China(John Carpenter, Kurt Russel) and it was very funny. An amazing piece of work, afterwards I saw it again with the commentary track which featured John and Kurt(as they referred to themselves) chatting about everything from the actual movie to their kids and life in general. It is the best such commentary I have yet heard(I´ve heard alot of them) and it is highly recommended for anyone who makes films or anyone with a peculiar sense of humor(if you liked the film you´re almost bound to like the commentary).
