New, in technology news
Kodak is entering the ink-jet market. The ink-jet market has been a sham for years, much like the videogame console market. What they do is sell you the printer(gameconsole) at a loss(oh my god it's so cheap), then overcharge for the ink(games) that make it work. Kodak has been into chemicals for more than a hundred years and it's safe to assume they have the nescessary expertise, what more is; they've been using their chemical expertise to make pictures and in this market they are world-leader.
So what can we expect from Kodak printers? Well, they'll cost more, but not that much more, Kodak wants to make money from the actual printer and so they're unlikely to make $25 printer(their first series start on $150), but, and this is the clinch: they intend to sell the ink at half the cost of the other manufacturers. And if you've ever printed a few full colour a4s you'll know just how quickly you run out of ink, and when you try to replace it you learn that the ink costs much more than the printer.
I welcome Kodak into the printer market, a breath of fresh air in a stale and stagnant market, and with some luck, their printers will produce fabulous looking photos(that will actually last for a hundred years, as opposed to the significantly shorter lifespans of their competitors).
